Battle Dome!

Battle Dome mixes the old competitive spirit of American Gladiators with some of pro-wrestling's showbiz style to create a brutal, real-life toughman competition. I've never liked the traditional "toughman" shows where big fat brawlers put on gloves and duke it out with no technique (see Fox's Toughman show). Battle Dome on the other hand creates deviously sadistic games where you'll see guys get thrown to the ground and occasionally hurt. In other words, this show is a blast to watch!

All you have to do is throw your opponent off this platform...The events are very different with the only thing in common is the potential for a contestant to get seriously hurt. I've only seen two episodes and I've seen guys get busted open, two shoulders dislocated and various cuts and bruises. One event pits two contenders against each other to try and throw their opponent off of an elevated disc. This event favors those with a wrestling background and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu star Fabiano Iha showed his superior wrestling skills in one episode. Other events have one of the show's "warriors" (who are bigger than life pro-wrestling style characters complete with entourages) trying to dump one of the contestants out of a large rotating metal cylinder with holes in the sides. Or contenders have to try and turn off lights on the other side of the playing field while the gladiators do their best to stop them. Unlike American Gladiators, these guys are mean! They seem to like hurting the contenders.

Battle Dome's Warriors mirror the WWF's style. So many injuries, so much fun! Let's admit it, we like to see injuries (as long as their not too serious). As if this weren't enough, they add strange WWF style story lines so you can expect scantily clad buxom women, sex-related stories, dissension between characters etc. I personally think that this takes away some credibility of these spectacular competitive games but hey, what do I know? I don't know if this show will last because they haven't really advertised it or spent any money on advertising. If you like pro-wrestling, toughman events or mixed martial arts competitions like the UFC, this should be right up your alley!
