Finding Love Online - Match.com

02/10/03

There's a good reason why Match.com is the leader in the online dating arena.  Not only do they have the largest number of subscribers but they also have a straightforward interface and a very easy to use matching system.  Everything is easy here, you enter your information and also information on what you're looking for.  Match.com has the most in-depth matching criteria.  Let's face it, most won't date people with certain habits or even people of certain races. Without putting anyone down for being shallow, why should we waste time browsing through ads of people we'd never consider going out with? All the other services don't narrow it down like this. I was able to easily find many women within 5 miles of where I live that matched my specific criteria.

The downside is that you find someone and you either e-mail them or send an instant message. There's no playing around here, you just start talking or writing with no easy way to test the waters. Once you see someone you like, it's up to you to win them over and let's face it, if any of us were that good with words we'd probably have someone by now.  I think Lavalife has the best way to make initial contact.

On an interesting note, Match.com with their extensive advertising, seemed to have the highest percentage of attractive looking people.  Not that the others didn't but there just seemed to be more here.  I think while Match.com will be difficult for some users to start effective conversations, it wins in sheer numbers.  And let's face it, dating is a numbers game.  The more choices, the more chances.  Match.com definitely gets my vote for being one of the best.
