Strikeforce Comes to an end Tonight

As a fan of mixed martial arts since UFC 2, it has been awesome to see the sport evolve. Unfortunately, with the new dominance of the UFC, other organizations have been disappearing faster than Betamax. Strikeforce is the latest casualty of the UFC, partially due to the raiding of all of Strikeforce's major talent. They were planning on going on even after they were acquired by Zuffa but now that's not going to happen. Tonight will be a lopsided card and SF will be relegated to a minor footnote in MMA history. Better remembered than WAMMA but not has heralded as PRIDE. Let's hope that other promotions like Bellator will grow because we'll always need a farm team for the UFC. Watch the last Strikeforce card on Showtime for free since they have a free preview weekend.

UFC Makes First Silva vs. Sonnen Fight Free

In anticipation of UFC 148 and the most anticipated rematch in recent history between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, the UFC have made their first fight free to watch on their website. Watch it soon because it won't be free forever!

After seeing Chael fight Michael Bisping and having a really tough time getting the British fighter to the ground, I think Silva, if he learned from last fight will be prepared. Of course my heart picks Silva but Chael Sonnen has an excellent chance of repeating what he did their first fight.

But who hasn't posed in a mirror admiring themselves at one time or another? OK, maybe most of us would have the modesty not to do it in public...

For all of us who missed this fight, HDNet has just posted Fedor Emilianenko's last fight. While the outcome is fairly predictable, it's interesting to see how the most highly regarded heavyweight in MMA history is choosing to end his career. Sure he's had his opportunities to come to the UFC to fight the youngest and best in the world but due to whatever management obstacles we'll never see him fight the likes of Cain Velasquez or Junior Dos Santos. Most likely Fedor will end his career fighting lesser known fighters who are still intimidated by the "aura". Too bad because I wish Fedor could've been the one to retire Brock Lesnar but now we'll never know. Source - MMAJunkie.com

Freak Double-KO Due to Ring Problems

When I saw this video, I thought it was going to be the same double KO that has been mentioned a million times but instead both of these fighters get knocked out when the ring door pops open and they hit the concrete floor. A rematch is will be scheduled but I'm sure this is embarrassing for both fighters and the promotion.

Dave "Pee Wee" Herman's UFC Debut Tonight!

While the name Dave "Pee Wee" Herman might not be known among casual MMA fans, he comes into his first UFC fight with an impressive 20-2 fight record. When you consider that one of his losses was a DQ to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou due to some unfortunate illegal knees his record is even more impressive. Herman is an exciting fighter who is known for some crazy striking and surprisingly good submissions for a man his size. If he has any weakness it's probably overcommitting to some wild strikes that a higher level striker could exploit. He'll be fighting Jon Olav Einemo tonight who is coming off a 5 year layoff. It's nice to see another quality heavyweight in the UFC and tonight he just might make his presence known as a future HW contender.

UFC 131 - Carwin vs. Dos Santos Tomorrow Night!

Tomorrow night, two giant knockout artists will meet at UFC 131. Originally slated to be the meeting of the two The Ultimate Fighter coaches, in Junior Dos Santos and Brock Lesnar, Lesnar had to withdraw due to another bout with diverticulitis. Now we have one of the hardest hitting heavyweight contests in UFC history. It's hard not to think that either Carwin or Dos Santos could easily handle most of the the UFC's previous champs so in a way this represents two of the best in history, that is until the winner fights the reigning UFC champ, Cain Velasquez. Let's just hope that Carwin is fully recovered from his surgery and won't gas out like in his last fight which ended up in a loss against Brock Lesnar.

UFC 129 Weigh In - St. Pierre vs. Shields

It seems like I'm one of the few who thinks that Jake Shields can wi this one but I'm not saying it'll be an easy fight. Georges St. Pierre is smart and won't take any chances so we might be looking at a strategic 5 round fight.

Adding more fuel the the fire of those who are already crowning Jon Jones not only with the title but with legend status, this amazing story comes. 2 hours before Jon Jones' title shot, he was meditating in the park and responded the the commotion of a robbery in progress. He ran after the robber, tripped him and subdued him until the police came.

ESPN's Sport Science - Shogun Rua has the Hardest Strike Recorded

At tonight's UFC main event, I'm anxious to see how Jon Jones will be able to take a kick from the legendary Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. ESPN just posted their Sport Science piece that claims that Shogun has the hardest strike they ever recorded and they've done pro boxers and MMA people like Quniton "Rampage" Jackson and Randy Couture before.

Now I've been claiming for a while about how Jon Jones is a future light heavyweight champ but can he avoid the kicks and will he be able to have a good chin against the much, much more experienced champ?
