Kingdom of Paradise Review - An Excellent PSP RPG Game
Kingdom of Paradise is a great role playing
game that is based loosely on Asian culture and mythology. It combines martial arts, swordplay and magic in one fun game!
You start out the game as the character Shinbu who runs across a girl who is being pursued by thugs. Of course, you stand up for her and that's where the story starts to build. She's
actually been looking for you and the two of you together start your quest.
You'll run across many different enemies so you'd better understand Bugei. Bugei are scrolls that you can load with different fighting moves called Kenpu. If you choose a specific Bugei, you'll be
able to execute the various Kenpu (fighting moves) that are listed in the Bugei. Confusing? Yup. It was so confusing that I almost gave up.
If you're dilligent, you can figure out Bugei and also the Chi arts which are magic arts that can do a lot of damage to a crowd of enemies.
Feel up to the challenge of this RPG? Be warned, it has a bit of a learning curve but if you can master Kenpu and Chi early, you'll have a lot of fun. Also, blocking can be confusing. When you
block, you still get hit but blocking will let you land on your feet for a quick counter-attack and minimize damage (but not much). Blocking is done by holding the attack button when you're being
attacked. Confusing but you'll get used to it.
Why Kingdom of Paradise Rocks:
- Great graphics & animation - some of the best on the PSP.
- Good story and good cutscenes.
- Good voice acting.
- Great, flexible combat system lets you impose your own sense of style.
Why Kingdom of Paradise Sucks:
- Complex fighting system has a steep learning curve.
- Blocking is confusing and hard to time properly.
Kingdom of Paradise is a great RPG for people who have the patience to figure out how to use the Bugei scrolls to string together complex series of moves. I'd encourage you to give this a try
because if you can get past the learning curve, you'll be rewarded with some awesome looking fighting animation and a great story! So, if you're looking for a nice game with a story to play while
you're on the go, this could be it but if you're looking for an easy hack-and-slash game, this might be too much to handle.
