X-BOX LOWERS PRICES AND TAKES A HUGE LOSS!!
07/08/02
I've had readers ask me about the X-Box and it's price drop. In an attempt to match the
Playstation 2's price drop to $199, the X-Box matched it! But at $199, Microsoft accepts a huge loss. Every X-Box costs an estimated $325 to produce. Now I'm not sure how much wholesale is
for these but you can expect that they might take up to a 50% loss on each sale! Does this mean that you shouldn't buy one because they might discontinue production because of loss? Well, not
necessarily. Microsoft has planned on losses for the first few years (as is normal for a new platform
). I'm not sure if they planned the price drop because this will definitely hurt them. They have
planned losses up to $750 million for the first year and over $1.1 billion the second year. Ouch!
Microsoft, unlike Sega, has more money to invest. They also plan to make up for losses with an
internet service for the X-Box. I don't think Sony is really worried. At an estimated $185 to make
their system, they aren't as damaged by the price drop. They also have a ton more games and are firmly established as the #1 system. However, X-Box games are slowly coming out and showing
the platform's graphical and gaming superiority. Which should you get? If you need to be on the
cutting edge, the X-Box is your system. But if you watch your money a little closer, the PS2 has a lot of games out there that are great and inexpensive. Used PS2 games are abundant (half.com)
and the controller & peripheral prices have dropped. You really can't go wrong with either!

Two Near Perfect Football Games
02/19/02
The two football games you must own are Madden 2002 and NFL Blitz 2002. I'm not going to
go into much detail here except to say that these are the two best football games available for the Playstation 2.

Rating : 9 out of 10
If you're a big football fan and know all the stats and watch every game then get Madden 2002.
It offers options that will make your head spin. The only downside is that the controls take a long time to master. But if you invest the time, you will play this game all year long!

Rating : 9 out of 10
If you're like me, you want to play now! NFL Blitz 2002 is a fun game that's easy to learn and
play. With the inclusion of late hits (it's great to smash the guy just as he starts into his end zone
dance!) and other graphic fun stuff it's great even if you're not a huge football fan. The over the top
gameplay is fun at parties and always gets a lot of laughs. The downside is that it's not as detailed as Madden but then that's not the point.
Both games get a 9 out of 10 rating. They both hit their target audiences squarely giving them (us) everything we want until the 2003 versions come out. Click here to buy Madden 2002. Click here

Legends Of Wrestling
02/17/02
Rating : 6 out of 10
I'm a big wrestling fan and have been watching since the "Golden Age" of the mid 80's. So when Acclaim released a game based on 42 classic wrestlers like Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, Fritz
VonErich, to Hulk Hogan was released, I wanted to check it out. The premise is great but the
controls are a bit sluggish making it a pain trying to execute moves quickly. The graphics are so-so.
Some of the wrestlers look nothing like themselves. In LOW you can play through a career mode, tournament mode and exhibition matches. The "create a legend" function works well allowing you
to assign any moves to your character. There are a ton of options for ring attire but unfortunately
not many for body styles or faces. Many wrestlers will look similar except for what they wear.
I'm still playing and enjoying it and have almost unlocked all the hidden wrestlers. Overall the
game rates a 6 out of 10. I would recommend it only for hardcore wrestling fans who remember the 80's. Click here to buy Legends Of Wrestling.

I Finally Broke Down and Bought One
02/11/02
It took a lot of time for me to make the decision... I was going to eventually get a DVD player but
I didn't need one right away but when I found that the Sony Playstation 2 can play DVDs, I figured that it was worth it to pay an estimated $100 extra for the ability to play games. Why the
Playstation 2? The X-box requires an extra purchase for it to play DVDs. Although it has the best
graphics, the Playstation has so many more games out there. If you go to Half.com, they have a ton
of games for cheap! Let's face it, with an estimated %20 of households having DVD players, every movie will be on DVD (also at half.com). If you haven't watched a DVD yet, you're missing out
. Many have extras like music videos, trailers, extra footage, outtakes, and some have different
voice-overs with actors or directors commenting on the film. It's a must for any film fan! What the
heck, just get a Playstation 2 and you can play great games too! If I get into it enough, I'll add a video game review section to this site.
